Either way, I'm 'clean as a whistle' in my interactions with him, by way of not reacting to any aggression or confronting him alone or publicly. I added that I didn't personally reach out to confirm any of the information I was reporting to HR, and am not planning to unless someone tells me I should. I didn't request any course of action from HR other than saying they may want to reach out to the people named with support, but I didn't ask them to fire the guy or do anything to him. I included all the information I was told by the coworker in my email, and as well as 12 names of other people the coworker said have been terrorized by this guy, and included the time frame it allegedly (did) happen over (years). After one coworker started saying some phrases that jumped out, like 'fear of retaliation' and 'derogatory comments' and 'disrespect' and 'blackmail', my brain was like "Oh crap my HR training said that regardless of whether I'm in a situation, or completely outside of it, if I hear those words spoken by anyone, I'm required by company policy to report it to HR." He is leading a fairly visible project, but he's not in a senior enough position (public-exposure wise, there's 8 layers above him) to cause a stir if he was found guilty of being a butthole and kicked out.
